My understanding of the way the system works is that PR firms provide free articles to publishers which are judged on their merit for publication.
Thats how the PR firms earn their keep by getting free editorial comment for their clients.
Any comment in a publication that is paid for and looks like editorial comment has to be tagged as advertising.
Didn't see any advertisement tags in those articles so the $s we are spending on PR are paying dividends.
I had a neighbour who was a photographer for the evening paper in Brisbane many years ago and a Coca Cola truck would regularly pull up at his place and drop of a few cartons. How come I said. He replied if I ever get the opportunity to get a Coca Cola sign in the background of a news photograph. I send a copy of the page to them and the truck turns up.
I was Barra fishing up in the Kimberly's with my wife quite a few years ago. We were being air lifted into little lagoons and casting beat up lures into them and catching a lot of big barramundi. The guide would carefully net the fish, support it and remove the old lure and replace it with a new one of some other kind and take a photo of us carefully holding the fish before it was released. Whats that all about I said. His reply was that he sent the photos to the substituted lure supplier and they would send him a box of lures.
There's a lot of wrinkles that keep these good old systems spinning like a top.
