Im no scientist, but CNN goes on to clarify the reason for the amendment. Something along the lines of the original figures were with respect to known outcomes, i.e. the % dead was with respect to those known to have either survived or died. The revised figures was to clarify that there were still some that were in hospital with outcome as yet unknown. Seven out of mesoblast 12 were actually discharged, so would fall under the definite outcome category. That's still pretty impressive and significant.
