Enhanced security in diamond exploration areas

Dundo - The mining areas (diamonds) in the municipalities of Lucapa, Cambulo and Cuango, in Lunda Norte, were reinforced with personnel from the defense and security organs, to prevent possible invasions by foreign citizens of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Angolans, for the practice of mining.

Recently, the defense and security agencies dispersed a group of more than 500 prospectors, mostly Congolese, who invaded the Mussolobela concession, in the municipality of Cambulo, belonging to the Sociedade Mineira de Chitotolo, to practice mining.

This fact, and especially in this period of State of Emergency, when circulation at the borders is prohibited, due to COVID-19, forced the agencies to create an urgent security measure, to prevent identical scenarios from happening again, putting at risk the country's epidemiological situation.

The Cuango basin, for example, according to the provincial interior delegate in Lunda Norte, Alfredo Quintino “Nilo”, has been the main attraction of the garimpeiros and deserved a special security strategy, placing, in addition to personnel from the National Police and Army , special forces (Commands and Police for Rapid Intervention), for their inviolability.

The heads of the private security companies of the mines operating in Lunda Norte were instructed to reinforce the personnel, to assist the public defense and security agencies, so that the combat is collective.

Alfredo “Nilo” appealed to the staff for rigor in combating gold mining, illicit diamond trafficking and other related crimes in the areas of diamond exploration.

He reiterated the call for the personnel deployed at the borders not to allow any attempted violation, in order to avoid not only gold mining, but also the transport of COVID-19, by the citizens of the DRC.
