I never knew that injecting a cherry on jello into a hot brine cocktail could have such a profound effect.

The idea of precooling the air to the condensers sounds a good one. What source of cooling? Using the averaging effect of night earth cooling is inviting. It means using the thermal mass of the sub-surface rock over at least a 12 hour period. How much earth works would be required? That depends on the volume of air that needs to be moved per MW by the cooling fans. If the air has to be pushed through an array of underground pipes some extra energy will be required. Where is that justifying balance point?

I am not sure I understand the shade cloth idea. The hot air must be free to rise up out of the system without impedance. If it is at the air entry end one would need to cover many hectares with cloth to cool 1000s of m3. If we do that then perhaps we could substitute aluminised mylar film for the shade cloth to reflect the sun's heat away. This is plentifully available and is relatively cheap.

What are the prevailing winds like in the Cooper Basin? Could the venturi effect (Bernoulli's Principle) be used to aid drawing air through the fans?
