If pre strip is anything like pre flotation the basis of that is to remove some of the unwanted crap from the ore. Thus increases the head grade to the flotation circuit.eg ore from mine might be 15% grade, after prestrip it could be 35% grade you could then store a lot more on the ground as there is less material.


The only problem with storing ore on the surface for long periods of time is the ore can oxidise , which makes it harder to flot and will reduce recovery rates thru plant.

I could be wrong on this, but it sounds very much like what i think they might do.

Or they could be talking about pre stripping the mine itself.

If the above is totally wrong at least you all have learnt a bit about concentrating ore.
