I disagree Pat.
Thoratec have already made big inroads into the market and their capitalisation is massive due to profit projections and good sales.
If there was a drop in confidence in Thoratec's product over a period of 1-2 years then Ventracor is probably the only company that's in a position to take control and try to dominate the US market in this timeframe given the large amount of implant centres they've established. The surgeons will continue to have a strong demand for patients who need an LVAD. Hopefully the ones that are exclusively implanting Heartmate II would then start implanting Ventrassist.
The Thoratec conference call this morning allayed investor concerns somewhat but there is no saying at this stage how big the problem could be for Thoratec as they don't seem to have all the data yet.
We will have to wait and see.
