I used to love the stories of the “dark days” way before my time. BP was via a pulse, SP02 via cyanosed extremities, depth of Anaesthesia calculated by the amount of movement when the surgeon stuck a scalpel into the patient.
The best was that you knew when your re-usable needle, for cannulation of a vein was blunt, was when you had to chase the patient down the corridor. It was time to get the hospital mechanical lads in to put an edge on them.
All those old guys are gone now, sadly I’m the old guy.
New generation need UltraSound to cannulate, VideoBronchoscopes to intubate.
