I think there are laws in this country that prohibits monopolies and as Jetstar and Qantas are a conglomerate, a third Airline should stay independent.
10 city routes isn't really a big thing and $200m sounds reasonable for the project. However duplicating routes from the majors does not exactly excite me, actually I find it a bit risky.
Where I see a deep hole for more demand are routes from certain regional towns >50k to the capitols that are now lost from Virgin/Tiger.
We are now totally cut off from Melbourne.
I think it would make more sense to cover these. One Tiger route me and my family often used to Sydney was always jammed full. No way they were making a loss.
For now REX is only looking into this.
Those who bought around $1.30 sure took a bit of a gamble.
In 8 weeks we might know if this project gets ignition or just a flameout.
