Notice the common theme between the 2 states stealing by hook or crook - communists and socialists. Sure, the EU may have a right to prevent price gouging by companies with monopolies in these scenarios, but no right to retrospectively change patent law to create chaos and industry uncertainty.

People ask me why haven't businesses invested in treatments/vaccines for coronavirus until only now. I tell them there was no commercial need at that time and govts/WHO needed to incetivise businesses to do that non-commercial work or fund govt research groups etc. So now, there is even less chance any commercial entity would ever undertake such research because as soon as the pandemic hits they will have their commercial rights stolen by govts who don't respect the rule of law (or just change it if they don't like it).
