The number of daily new cases in the USA has plateaued, and has been declining slowly, although total active cases are still increasing but should begin to drop as older cases are declared recovered.

But as for death rates, most deaths happen pretty early after diagnosis within a week, where as survivors won't be declared "recovered" for up to 3 weeks after diagnosis.

So as the number of cases are growing in the early stages of the spread, you will see a higher death to recovery ratio than you would expect, but this will balance out over time once the older cases begin to be declared recovered, and the rate of new cases drops.
