Vale is building something new. A 100 bed field hospital in Parauapebas, exclusively for COVID 19 patients. The work started on April 17 and was supposed to be completed within 25 days. It is also refurbishing another hospital in the city. Why does it need to take these unusual steps? There are already several private and public hospitals in Parauapebas.

It's doing it because it has to-

"This Sunday, 17, we recorded 35 new cases of Covid-19 in the municipality, through quick testing. There was the death of a 62-year-old woman who was hospitalized in private ICU. The history of confirmed cases is on the prefecture website."

35 cases recorded yesterday in this one city- just 50 ks from the Carajas mines. The city that supplies workers and provisions to the mines. Here, doctors and nurses are dying, and the authorities are struggling to enforce a lockdown, while the virus simply explodes through the population.

The situation just yesterday in Parauapebas , 481 confirmed cases, 47 deaths, 108 "under investigation" (after being tested), 41 in hospital, presumably critical, and 155 sent home to self isolate. The first case was on March 28th, so all this in less than 7 weeks.
