It does seem odd however JZ has said they won't several times. I'd be surprised if he would straight out lie. If they were interested I'm sure he'd be more ambiguous.
One possibility is they may be the non preferred option he refers too they may have wanted to buy us or something similar. So he may be skirting the line of talking about investing v's owning etc. Who knows really its all over the shop to be honest.
