the red box is the discovery, to the north is the tenement that has the long red lit aeromagnetics. you can see that the discovery is just a pin prick to what this could be. whilst the northern tenement is state forest thanks to LPN, he gave us a great description of what he saw regarding this land. LPN said
1 - the State Forest appears to be reclaimed farmland, reforested in the 1970's/80's (or that at least is my understanding of when a lot of the water catchment area around Perth was reforested). Perhaps a bit later, it looks only maybe 25-30 years old. From memory, most reforestation was done mainly to reduce salinity and turbidity in Perth's dams and act as a barrier to locusts from the wheatbelt. I'm guessing it therefore shouldnt present too many heritage issues but is signposted as a "conservation area" and there are lots of stopping points for looking at wildflowers (a big thing in WA) so there will be strict requirements around that.
2 - Not particularly significant but I noted that the forest is more Wandoo than Jarrah. With a bit of banksia and hakea scrub. There are still a few large, twisted and not good for logging, old-growth trees but not many. I think most of the land would have originally been for sheep farming so the less commercial trees would have been left for shade. Now the remaining farms are a mix of sheep and cattle.
In understanding this and Chalice expertise with getting governments onside in Victoria. We should have access to this in about 3 months. This will create massive optionality & god knows how big this could be......
