Pugnacious - valid questions - yes I would start LOOKING now in very selected areas and depending on the friends financial situation I would recommend the same. I stopped looking 2-3 years ago and has been as boring as hell.

Situation is now no different, in fact not as bad as the early 90s when I started my last foray - you see thats what set me apart from the johnny come lately investors.
The next 2-3 years will present some interesting opportunities. Once it all starts to move there will be some money to be made but now is the time to look - no need to hurry to buy but by looking now its part of the research and affords you the ability to buy on an informed basis if something good comes up and they generally do.
