Day trading is a skill i couldn't/wouldn't hope to master.
Another option @bladelle - follow a few stocks and build your knowledge on those stocks over time and follow and read about them and their industry avidly - which after a while will allow you to better make decisions if you do want to trade them in the mid/short term (again perhaps not day trading which is a different ball game altogether). The number of stocks to follow ..... depends on how much time you have really.
....but like anything, it takes time.
