If you cannot see why this could be a real challenge to the docs trying to get people and or families to agree to participate in any trial at what is life or death moments for all of them I simply do not know how to make that clearer.
You certainly get narky when someone disagrees with you!
From my experience, it depends on how you explain it to the patient. 'I would like to try this experimental treatment on your family member that we think could help them fight this disease. It is cells that have been donated. The cells help to fight the infection in the lungs. Would you be happy for your family member to take part in this trial?'
Do you think that people will say 'Wait, I'll just go home and google that before I say yes'. IMHO I don't think this will happen. I think people will be scared and desperate and will trust the doctor that this is a good option to save the life of their family member.
