what traders watch for when trading

Dear Forum,
I am doing a Cert iv in Training & Assessment at TAFE and will be giving to simple short training sessions on share trading for my assessment in presentation for the course. The first 1/2 hour I just want to give people the idea as to how to fill in an application form and get an account with an online broker.

The second 1/2 hour will be on what to look out for when buying. I do a simple fundamental calc on the worth of the share. But I would be interested in knowing what other things people look out for - tips, suggestions advice from your experience would be gratefully received. I also though I would spend 5 minutes on sources of funds; so super funds, leveraged funds (what are they called now - margin lending?), day trading even; any other thoughts?
