The announcement of HGST's renewal of the JDA on 1 May foreshadowed that Western Digital were going to become more involved in the process, "...we look forward to working closely with their respective technical and corporate teams during the term of this extension." Today's company update puts the proof in the pudding.
4DS have all but confirmed they have gone exclusive with Western Digital until end game. To me, this announcement reads like Western Digital have now seen enough promise in the tech to want to step in and shape the final push prior to offering a buy out. Prior to this they were more happy to just sit on the sidelines and watch. This could take until the end of the CY but they'll want to get it right.
