AEMO is the one dragging the chain regarding battery implementation, but understandably so.

Reading the Hornsdale report in detail reveals the considerable issues in integrating a battery into the grid, the mistakes and lessons learned, and the strict planning and approval process that was likely going to be a result.

Essentially you need to have a firm understanding on the specs of the battery in combination with the required long-lead infrastructure components (12 months for the custom components) of which are also backlogged due to the worldwide demand.

Do all that detailed analysis, provide it to AEMO they review and approve/modify the plans you go back to the component manufacturers make your adjustments and place a forward order. As they said re Bonney's battery, the economics weren't quite there for the time involved without the government kick in.

There is a very good chance future batteries will not economically perform to the scale of the first few batteries purely due to changing pricing arrangements, diminishing returns and regulation and technological changes.
