In the north we have iron ore (Pilbara), coal (QLD) and phenominal renewable power potential (Ord River hydro, tidal [16ft tides] & hot rock), yet we ship the stuff to China & have it returned value added .... are we insane or what !
Lang Hancock was a bit out there, but he did have vision. An east/west railway line across the top end to link the resources & a man made super harbour (created by an underground nuclear detonation) If the Federal Gov is looking for a national infrastructure project then why not the E/W railway.
