I'd rather pass the hat around for a stranger than have them top themselves over money.
I'm somewhat of a gambler and have faced what seem like life ending losses at times, but looking back on some of them, they were nothing in the long run.
I once lost my whole months pay at crown in one weekend. Had nothing to live off for the month and couldn't pay my bills. That was a dark moment. But years on, and many pay rises later, that months wage and the tough 4 weeks I had as a result, are a distant memory, and in fact the story has become one I can tell over a few beers and have a laugh about.
It always feels like death at the time, not surprisingly, the opposite feeling to that which we get when we make a whole heap of money.
Money money money. Yes we need it, but it is never worth ending a life over, ever.
