The idiots at the top and the communist machine leadership tag-ons most certainly are. Perhaps, having seen how this has planned out, and taking into account future risk, countries should start assessing their own capabilities and reliance on others a little more carefully. A concerted effort for Western countries and others to work around China may not be a wasted idea. But it will take time, we, and others, don’t generally plan outside of current election cycles - which is in itself, pretty idiotic. With China generally playing hardball, the world should call the bluff. When they can’t feed themselves or get rid of lots of merchandise properly, they will come back to the table. Internal insurrection being the biggest fear. Then we can tell them to fck off.

"The world should call their bluff" Easier said than done. America is otherwise engaged for the time being. Russia is wary of China (aren't we all) with which it has a very long land border and to which it wants to sell a huge amount of its gas. Various countries through Asia Minor and South-east Europe, as well as East Africa are in China’s BRI bloc. The EU countries are divided over relations with China. And then there's us.
