Tbh I don't know much about which states belong to which political party (unless I look it up)
But dividing it's citizens is something the media has tried to do
I don't think that benefits anybody

I have posted a map for better generalisation
The North & East seem to be doing better than the west & south
I'm sure there is a mix of both party states that are doing better or worse (I can't be bothered counting them either. Haha)
But I do agree with you that any state that can't get the virus under control is going to create a dangerous situation

The reason could be geography rather than polticial parties
    Population sizes
It could also be the way it has been handled by each state
    I have no idea
All I can say is that most of the country is either similar or better than it was 2 weeks ago
    Not worse
If you take out the 5 current worst states, that's almost half of the new daily cases
