Another argument to throw back at them would be that silicon is not as "space efficient" as DSC.
Silicon panels need to mounted on a suitable surface, in many cases the available room for mounting them is limited.
Silicon panels are also quite heavy which limits them even further.
eg: I use a small campervan (pop-top Toyota Hiace), I have been looking into solar panels to top up the batteries when in the bush. For $500 I could buy a large, bulky panel which would need a mounting frame on the roof. It would require 5000mm x 5000mm of operating space (as well as storage space when in transit).
Alternatively using DSC, the entire roof could be generating power - no bulk, no storage, no repositioning, no weight.
Anything which applies to a hippy consumer trying to have fun in the bush applies tenfold to the military!
