I agree with most of what you said, except I don’t think it’s just about feeling superior to others. I think it’s tribalism. We adhere to a group in order to survive. We are social animals and will not prosper in isolation. Yes, feeling superior is an important part of the process, but I think it’s about being a part of the bigger, stronger group to survive and procreate. Believing in the group by an individual just adds to its strength.
