One other thought if people were shorting you would buy back during the tax loss selling so you did not force the price back up (assuming you did not cover in the placement) and then deliver the shares back to the original owner (at a huge profit if you borrowed at $1.30). The pick up in turnover would not necessarily suggest the buyers will keep buying (or even like the stock). It will be interesting to see what happens to turnover in July.
According to shortman.com.au there was a large drop in PET shorts in mid April at the time of the placement and shorts have been falling again recently (the data is lagged a week.
