If nothing else will be communicated on the matter then it would suggest there is an issue, otherwise why wouldn't some explanation be made and as another poster mentioned some gratitude provided, the company has done ok during the last four odd years. Sorry if that is stating the obvious. Having said the confirmed guidance has not been updated which would be required if there was some major issue. His employment contract requires that he provide 6 months notice or that the company provides 12 months notice.
