In a recent IL Retail Innovation Meetup meeting, hosted by Shekel, we invited Jose Alvaro Avalos, Vice president in the Internet of Things Group and General Manager of Vertical Markets at Intel to talk about retail trends around the world.
His presentation, “Shaping the Future of Retail,” provided many insights from the rise of autonomous micro markets in Europe and Asia, to the increased use of autonomous devices, AI and IoT in retail spaces. One of his more interesting insights was distinguishing the shopping habits of the productive and discovery shopper, and how autonomous micro markets will help retailers cater to both.

“The global COVID-19 pandemic brings the need for a new self-checkout model into sharp focus,” said Mike Valenti, senior research consultant at Frost & Sullivan.
“Shekel’s Fast Track solution answers the demand for grocery and supermarkets to provide safe, touchless and easy-to-use self-checkout solutions to protect both employees and customers.” Valenti noted that the seamless integration of the Shekel solution addresses retailers’ concerns about lengthy installation downtime as well.
