Bridges are collapsing, or about to collapse, all over Italy because of corrupt building practices from back in the 60s and 70s
(and still going strong today).
Admittedly - the Romans didn't have 40T horse and carriages romping up and down all day
but they built what was necessary for the day.
What they did with acquaducts was a work of art and engineering and still evident today
