i think you need to realise that BHP don't need APG as has been stated here. And guess what, BHP did own shares in RIO as it was obviosuly building a position and lost far more than a tiny investment it has in APG and many other compaies out there.
BHP owned 10% of a friend's company once, and was simply there in case an opportunity came up. There was no major need by BHP.
So expecting that BHP needs APG is a little too much.
Unfortunately, the real problem is the current crises and the fact many resource company small and big will go under over the next 3-6 months as funding continues to dry up.
APG needs BHP in order to tap into funding. If BHP decides to no longer provide it, whether through placements etc, there will be some very nervous people.
