If you take a look at the dates where shorting was banned and when it was reinstated during the GFC and match it up on an XAO chart. You'll quickly see how the falls accelerated after the ban and the reinstatement was just prior to the low(chart below)

Short selling is done by numerous different players, from small retail traders to big short selling professionals. It really isn't the sinister thing so many HC punters believe it to be. If people are shorting a stock I hold(beyond the day traders) then one of us is wrong and whichever it is will lose money, that's how the market works

Note how orderly the selling is before and after the ban and how disorderly it is while no one can short
