I should have taken a breath or two before posting that last post, and thankfully the mods helped me out and removed it.
I stupidly forget that not everyone here thinks like a trader, as I do, and I also stupidly forget that not everyone here is in a position to take advantage of markets moves in both directions.
Shorts versus longs generally has no moral meaning to me from a trader perspective.
I get confused when morals are brought into it and angry (unjustified in retrospect) when an attack is made on the skills I use to play the markets, and which have taken me no small amount of money and time to get, particularly when I try to share my skills and knowledge to help others learn how to trade.
Regarding the morals of shorting or longing (if one can use such a term in this context):
A move like shorting oil could be seen as a very moral short move, popping a ridiculous spec bubble and helping the little bloke afford to fill up their car with petrol to get to work.
I beleive that on the other hand, OPEC would be outraged that someone dared make money while their profits from output are reduced, and oil workers would be annoyed because their wages decline...
It's a tough one, but I shall battle on... and must remember that not everyone here understands or views trading in the holistic manner in which I do.
And most importantly, my belting someone who is already hurting achieves nothing but further hurt.
