Trimlad, no one is trying to abrogate personal responsibility (except for the management of Oz Minerals maybe). If you read some of the previous posts you will see that people are angry about the fact that they invested on the basis of one reality, and found that another one entirely existed.
The capital markets rely on full disclosure by companies. It is also a legal requirement for listing on the ASX. If all companies were like Oz Minerals, the capital markets would fall apart very quickly and no one would be able to obtain funds to do anything. The rules are there for a reason, and are what makes countries like your new homeland more successful and a better place to live than many other places in the world.
Although I personally invest on the basis of "don't invest what you cannot afford to lose", I will be very, very annoyed if the Oz Minerals ship sinks because of mismanagement.
