Apologies if this has been posted already. Aus government provided a $600k grant this week to Melbourne based privately owned company ZIP for a < 30 min POC molecular Covid test. Sensitivity is apparently similar to PCR Gold Standard (a quick google showed this around 87% - happy to be corrected here).
I guess this shows a couple of things:
- Other Australian companies are progressing with developing rapid tests (seems like lower sensitivity)
- The Aus government will give money to help develop tests - and potentially more importantly with money would likely come support through the regulatory approval process
If anyone has more of an understanding of ZIP’s test it would be good to get your insight
