There are no controls on the flu. It is pretty much free to spread every year and is controlled naturally in many cases. There is a flu vaccine available every year and the medical profession recommend people get a shot so it is a defence.
At the moment there is no properly proven defence against Covid.
Yes , the flu does kill some people every year but it isn't sweeping through and killing older people in massive numbers. It isn't filling hospitals every year like Covid is right now.
And neither are all the other aliments that people refer to such as cancer, aids etc.
Even with strict controls Covid has proved to be very transferable and deadly to the vulnerable.
