One more thing, if you'd invested $US50k in the australian share market in 1900 then, excluding dividends, you'd have accumulated $US19,506,186.73 at today's closing price, assuming your shares kept pace with the index and didn't exceed it or fall below it.
Of course you'd have done twice as well if you'd cashed in 12 months ago :)
