You say that but sometimes there are problems that go wrong on connection and some connections you require more work. This is exactly why Telstra is losing marketshare. Aussie Broadband and others have much better feedback than Telstra on review sites and there will most likely be an exodus after the TLS DNS issues.
The other thing is Telstra's internal peering/routing isn't great compared to some of the ISPs with less legacy and newer equipment.
