Thanks for the reminder about this. The issue of historical control didn't seem significant until I read the Lassman critique. One of his big points is that the historical information that MSB was likely to have been relying on was extremely old and that standard of care had almost certainly improved over time. The MAGIC numbers are from Mount Sinai's "contemporaneous" database. So that point has, or will be, blown out of the water.
