You can still make money in a bear market in long positions. AND you can do it in a bull market too with short positions. Zoom in on any line and you will see it jump up and down. Mostly it ends up over the longer timeframe. Holding short over a longer timeframe on an Index is not a good plan. Take a look at any Index chart and you will see what I mean.
I do agree with you that things do seem pricey. There is more going on here than we are privy too. I'm not saying "don't do it" but rather "be careful" and choose your moments.
