Having let the dust settle and reread the announcement too, also taking in other comments about ASX restrictions on them. It reads to me as 4DS will be doing whatever it takes to get this wrapped up in 2021.

As Said " Company in a position to potentially deliver a megabit chip and/or a corporate transaction during 2021" "The results from both wafer lots will define the Company’s 2021 strategic development plan to achieve its goal of fabrication of a megabit chip and/or a corporate transaction."
"with sufficient funds to meet its development objectives until end 2021."

They have plenty of cash, a couple of years worth at present rate but I believe the BOD are just as frustrated with set backs from Coivd, they have come up with this plan with IMEC and WD to get them to there goal as quickly as possible.

And megabit chip and or transaction, would WD wait until 4DS has a fully functioning chip to show competitors.
