"People who want to get ahead" would be advised not to adopt the inevitability you're so openly resigned to.

The only thing I was certain about after school was that I didn't want to continue living in a single-parent household dependent on Centrelink. I studied for 5 years, topped two degrees, got a six figure graduate salary and saved 60% of my post-tax income for the next 5 years while my friends snorted it up their noses. I spent $70k on an ivy league masters, now earn triple what I started on and am trying to build my own business in my spare time. I bought my apartment with a 30% deposit and could pay it off in 5 years if I chose to.

I'm 29 years old, and I wouldn't be posting on this forum if it wasn't for Australia's social security and HECS system.

You're damn right Australia is a lucky country. And I remind myself every time I pay my quarterly BAS smile.png
