The problems is that the costs of living keep increasing and the opportunities keep declining.

If you rent you would now pay significantly more than previous generations did as a proportion on this front, and many will struggle to save for a deposit or establish a family because of this. This is not new either, property and rents have been on the rise for decades.

Combine that with HECS... well there's another cost shifted from the nation to the young without income.

Then there's healthcare. Lucky we've eroded the public system by directing everyone over 30 to funnel billions into an unproductive private system that still pushes back many of the most difficult and specialised procedures to the public system.

There are also technology costs. It is now essential for just about everyone to have a phone and computer and internet, but wouldn't you know it that many well to do people think that the underserving poor shouldn't have these things because they didn't earn them like they did.

Compound the effects of all this over a couple of decades and you start to glimpse the real hollowing of the middle class. Imagine if all those returns most of us have enjoyed for the past 20 years never came to be. Well that's what we've imposed on younger generations through this system.

It was never a loss for the boomers, they were the political supporter base, it was about getting them to turn on their children and grand children all along.

Tax keeps this country running, propels education and innovations through research. Sharing wealth promotes stability and the general efficiencies of shared resources (those damn commies want another freeway and park and hospital damn it!) and stops the nation from tearing at the seams through conflict stoked by insufficient resources.

but yeah put your feet up til you die. you've earned it!
