There was another good example in WA not many years ago: The Margaret and Shane Foundation. Don't recall exactly how it started but there was some outrage on the roads, I think, and this charity was set up to help victims of future similar events. Telephones were ringing and the public was motivated to donate approx $1m. When the accounts surfaced, and correct me if I'm wrong, anyone, the amount that leaked through to the victims on the ground was about $30,000. These are the kinds of people who are harrassing you daily on the phone with beggging calls. I just say "sorry, but thanks for your call" and hang up. Yes, I donate annually to one or two charities, but I don't have much confidence that my money did anything other than support the charity fat cats.
