Monks are presumably happy to be single (free choice) and they do indeed live about 5 years longer than married men. These are facts so we have been fed a lie that testosterone is shortening the life of men by 6 years or thereabouts when in fact it seems to shorten it by no more than one year in large samples of people who have chosen to live a single life.
