The pressure on Merkel is not that high. There is quite a green consensus amongst all parties going for EV but tey also look for alternative technologies.
Tio support this just one fact. During corona, the car industry wanted a bonus to the customer paid by the government on every car being sold to stimulate sales. The bonus was only granted for EV cars which caused a huge uproar amongst car lobbyists.
