Pension claims soar in tough times

Tough times from the economic downturn have been met with a sharp increase in the number of people seeking a pension.

The rate of age pensions being granted rose 50 per cent at the end of last year as the sharemarket slumped.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the new pensions approved rose from 2000 a week in October, to 3000 a week in December.

"Just another example of more pressure on the Gov't surplus, plus less taxes from super and eventually business and individuals via higher unemployment. This surplus is eroding quicker than a kid in a candy shop with loose change".
So tell me in about 6 months where the Gov't will get their $4.7b. I reckon the Gov't would be lucky to have $4.7m for any NBN.

129% D/E, first I have heard of this, I thought more like 40% and will the potential of a $5-7b free cash in 2010.

TLS' profits will fall just like all other businesses. It is NOT immune to the slowing economy. My prediction is 95% of Aus business will have a profit downgrade later this year.
