Winks, I understand what you are saying and believe shorting should be allowed...but only where it does not directly influence the market, say CFDs (which does I know but you get my meaning).
A stocks price should be down to its performance, forward earnings, macro factors and the like, not purely on the supply/demand curve of its shares being traded which are then skewed by naked shorting, thus distorting its market capitalisation, albeit temporarily.
Just because something has been around for ages does not mean it should continue to be.
