palestine is sort of roman but it came from the greek philistine.
The original philistines were from greece and asia minor and had close contact with the greeks. Philistine originally meant wanderer. A similar word exists I think in ancient hebrew. The Greeks called the whole area of current gaza, israel, west bank, jordan, lebanon and syria philistine - then it was philistine, judea, israel and assyria. The northern kingdom of israel was destroyed by the assyrians.
The Romans originally refered to the area as judea but when they rebelled once too much the killed / enslaved / exiled the population village by vilage and renamed the area philistine-syria
or something like that
