It's a mighty conundrum, to be sure. Could it be that humans do have this additional, unknowable quality that is called the human spirit?

There is no untapped capacity in the human brain. It is limited and we use every aspect of the brain, but of course it can be trained. For instance the brain of a concert pianist can be destinguished from an average Joe.

There is a school of thought being expressed by a handful of brain doctor types that the human brain seems also to act as a conduit and that degrees of consciousness pass through and into the brain rather than reside in the brain. Intuition, creativity, etc may at times suggest this.

We are different to all other brain structures and creatures and exceed brain capacity need by many multiples, as you kind of say. We seem to have transgressed the bounds one might expect from evolution alone. Is this the human spirit in action?

The sign of some other self of a higher order again?

It's a facinating subject and I think your posts do it justice.
