kevi is doing what a lot of people do in a downturn,,,if they lose their jobs...some say stick it....and start their own business............
Toni..you might be talking about your age group...but tell the young ones down there in Chapel St........last sunday, and it was quite hot....the pavement was packed, shops were busy...and they were spending....good sales on at the moment....eateries all packed and busy...
Chapel st is predominately fashion and food...with jbhifi and games...its all very young....
I am currently looking for a shop to buy...am sure some of them will throw in the towel...so much competition...
    I stopped spending last year.......
but have been picking up some massive bargains recently...
I still eat out, take away, whatever...all this depressive talk becomes boring....
people drink more..and eat more when depressed....and probably buy smaller items for the feel good factor....
oh and the bad news on these forums like the media ...gets the most viewers...I tested that this week...
put up a 'good news' heading and no one is interested

I think the stockmarket has a lot more falling to do...wait for all the reporting due in Feb....lot of people walked away from that market and will never return....keep an eye on property though...I predict it will do what it did after the tech wreck...
and remember...the early bird gets the worm
